On April 26, 2022, the CREATE BRIDGES Initiative is implementing the first of several strategies envisioned and designed by stakeholders in the retail, accommodation, tourism, and entertainment sectors of Western North Carolina. The “Got Your Back” Local Business Summit is the culmination of an 18-month effort of representatives of the Southwestern Commission, Western Carolina University, Southwestern Community College, and several area businesses, chambers of commerce, and development organizations to address the needs of the hospitality, tourism, and retail industries (the “CREATE sector”).

The Got Your Back Local Business Summit is a one-day in-person conference targeting business owners and managers in the CREATE sector. Through interactive workshops offered by industry pros, attendees will get the tools they need to attract and retain talent by providing top-notch workplace culture and employee development opportunities. In addition to many other tangible benefits,  all attendees will receive a Got Your Back recognized business decal to display in their windows to signal to current and potential employees that this business, indeed, has “got their backs.”

Session topics include tips on employee recruitment and training, best management practices, being a better leader, equity and inclusion, and turning jobs into careers. Conference organizers want businesses to expect a celebration of the region’s local business owners and their resiliency over the past several years. The day will bring everyone together to share valuable insights and learn useful information in hands-on workshops led by relatable experts.

Due to limited space, registrations are limited to business owners located in Jackson, Macon, Swain, Cherokee, and Clay Counties and the Qualla Boundary. The cost is $20. Registration and other information.

The CREATE BRIDGES initiative is facilitated by NC State Extension CRD.
