Welcome to the NC State Extension Local Food Program

The NC State Extension Local Food Program aims to promote the production, marketing, and consumption of food grown and caught within North Carolina.

NC State Extension is driven to grow North Carolina’s local food economy by providing research, education, and collaboration with food system actors. We provide farmers, consumers, and community leaders with expert guidance, data, and technical support needed to build a resilient food system. From food safety training and marketing strategies to community gardening and farm-to-school resources, we help North Carolinians put research-based knowledge to work for a healthier, more vibrant state.
